All Belhaven Labradors used for breeding are certified through the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation Association) for the following;
HIPS, PATELLA, SHOULDER, ELBOWS, HEARTS, EYES, even the HOCKS are evaluated through the OFA. (Orthopedic Foundation Association)
This is very important to us and should be very important to you when searching for a Labrador Puppy to add to your family.
We DNA test them for all genetic markers known to affect Labrador Retrievers. We ONLY breed CLEAR to CLEAR therefore Belhaven pups could not possibly be carriers or effected of such. THEY ARE CLEAR of EIC, PRA, DILUTE GENE, NARCOLEPSY, CENTRONUCLEAR MYOPATHY, CYSTINURIA, DEGENERATIVE MYELOPATHY, LONG COAT and much much more!
All our breeding dogs are examined not only by a licensed Ophthalmologist and cleared of eye problems ( CERF'd yearly) They also see a certified Cardiologist and have Advanced Echocardiograms to ensure no heart conditions exists (certifications listed on the OFA site for your information) . This way I can ensure the healthiest puppy I can provide for the new owners. All pups are health certified by a licensed veterinarian, given their first set of vaccinations and have been chipped for identification. Crate training has begun along with the beginning of the housebreaking process. Pups are socialized and exposed to varied life experiences prior to 8 weeks of age. Temperament Testing occurs at 7 weeks of age if necessary. All pups leave with a contractual agreement. IF FOR ANY REASON owners can no longer care for their dogs they are TO BE RETURNED TO ME and should NEVER to be placed in a shelter or a rescue.
